Bhubaneswar: The voting process for the election of candidates to urban local bodies ended on Thursday evening. As per the State Election Commission (SEC), the urban local bodies (Municipalities and NACs) recorded 65% polling while the municipal corporations recorded low voting percent.
State Election Commissioner Aditya Prasad Padhi informed at a presser that Cuttack Municipal Corporation recorded 65% polling, while the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation recorded 50%. Similarly, the polling percentage of Berhampur Municipal Corporation was 47%.
The election was held for 47 Municipalities, 59 NACs, and 3 Municipal Corporations across the State. Total 40.55 lakh voters were registered in these places for voting which was carried out in 4,360 booths, said Padhi.
“There were a few booths from where EVM issues were reported which delayed the process. In Umerkote, the polling was postponed for issues in the ballot paper in one of the Wards. The election in Ward No. 8 of Umerkote will be held tomorrow,” the SEC added.
