Bhadrak: The festive season of new starts and knowledge has brought bad luck to a family of Bhadrak’s Arnapal panchayat as their 10th standard son drowned to death in a river during Ganesh Puja Visarjan.

The deceased has been identified as Rajendra Sahoo of Susua village.

Reportedly, Sahoo actively took part in the Ganesh Puja celebrations at his tuition class. After yesterday’s fervor and gaiety, the group decided to immerse the Ganesha idol today in Nalia river.

Amidst much fanfare, the entire group went to the Bhakti Brahmapur Ghat for ‘visarjan’. During the process, Sahoo ventured far into the middle of the river and subsequently drowned to death.

His body was recovered by the villagers and he was rushed to the nearest hospitals but in vain as Sahoo had already taken his last breath by then.
