Jeypore: A Class VII girl student of Nuagaon Ashram School under Borigumma block in Odisha’s Koraput district died while undergoing treatment at a hospital on Thursday, with her family alleging negligence on the part of school authorities.
The deceased has been identified as 13-year-old Subarna Amanathya, a hostel inmate and daughter of Bhagaban Amanathya of Podapadar village. According to family members, the girl had been unwell since the previous night and her condition deteriorated on Thursday morning.
Sources said the student fell seriously ill around 9 AM, following which the school authorities informed her family. However, the family alleged that no immediate medical arrangements were made by the school administration. They claimed that they rushed to the school upon receiving information and shifted the girl to Borigumma Hospital in a critical condition.
Doctors at the hospital later declared her dead during treatment.
The incident has triggered resentment in the locality, with the bereaved family accusing the school authorities of negligence leading to the student’s death. They have demanded a fair and impartial inquiry into the incident and strict action against those found responsible.
