Bhubaneswar: A class VIII student narrowly escaped death after jumping off the Mahendratanaya river bridge at Parlakhemundi in Gajapati district.

According to reports, the girl, a student at Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir in Parlakhemundi, had apparently attempted to end her life by leaping off the bridge connecting Parlakhemundi to Andhra Pradesh. However, luck was on her side. The riverbed was dry, and she landed on a discarded mattress that had been thrown away, breaking her fall and saving her from certain death.

Passersby who witnessed the incident immediately rushed to her aid and took her to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

However, the reason behind her attempted suicide is still unclear, and the police are investigating the matter.
