Jajpur: The craze to capture each moment through ‘selfies’ have caused many deaths in recent years. The latest casualty is reported from Erbanka village of Sadar police station area in Jajpur.
Two cousins, Nazreen Begum (19) and Saista Begum (17) had gone to Tantighai ghat of Kharashrota river on Sunday morning to take a bath. But before taking bath, the duo started clicking selfies with a mobile phone.
In a bid to get the perfect click, both accidentally slipped in the river. Some locals, who were standing nearby, immediately swung into action and jumped into the water to save them. But only Nazreen was able to be rescued, while Saista got swept away in the river’s strong current.
After receiving information, Fire Service personnel reached the spot and launched a search operation to trace her. Till the last report came in, whereabouts of the girl were not known.
