Bhubaneswar: Development of hockey across the country is my aim, stated Hockey India’s newly elected president Dilip Tirkey on his arrival here today.
Tirkey said that his endeavour will be to make hockey reach the grassroots. In the coming days the focus will be on clinching gold for India in hockey in the Olympics, he added.
The former national captain said that he will discuss with the FIH how the Hockey India League can be restarted.
“It’s a proud moment for me, for Odisha, for the people of Odisha and for all I will say. It is for the first time in the history of Hockey India that a sportsperson has been elected as the president. For that I thank all, members of the Hockey Association, the one who had filled nomination all those who supported me in the last moment to elect me as the president,” commented Tirkey on being elected unopposed as Hockey India president.
He also thanked the Chief Minister for the promoting sports especially hockey.
It has also reflected somewhere in the entire country in this, he added.
Officials of the Sports department who were present at the Biju Patnaik International Airport and gave Tirkey a grand welcome on his arrival here.
Tirkey was elected Hockey India president yesterday after two rivals in the race withdrew their nominations.
