Bhubaneswar: The Sikharchandi Temple and its surrounding area will be upgraded and developed as one of the main attractions of Bhubaneswar city in an area of 53.64 acres at a cost of Rs 25 crore.
The master plan for the purpose was approved by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today, said an official press release.
It is worth mentioning here that a few days back Secretary to CM (5T) V K Pandian visited the Sikharchandi Temple and ordered preparation of the master plan.
He had suggested the development plan should be environmentally friendly.
In a meeting held today evening, BDA vice president Balwant Singh made a presentation regarding the master plan prepared for this. According to this plan, development and beautification work will be done on 53.64 acres of land in and around the temple. The BDA will take over the management of the area in addition to carrying out these upgrades.
According to the master plan, the total area is divided into 4 zones. In Zone-1, parking, public sports and other activities will be improved and other facilities will be developed. Zone-II will have view points and trekking routes. In Zone-3 and 4, infrastructure, community centre, main building improvement, shop house and other facilities will be provided for recreational activities.

Taking part in the discussion, Bhubaneswar North MLA Sushant Raut, Sikharchandi Anchalika Seva Sangh president Kshitish Tripathi and temple priest and said that the development of Sikharchandi temple was a long-standing expectation of the local people. Today the Chief Minister has fulfilled it. For this they expressed their gratitude to the Chief Minister.
Bhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das, Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra, Development Commissioner PK Jena Additional Chief Secretaries and Principal Secretaries of various departments took part in the discussion.
