Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today laid the foundation stone of two important irrigation projects in Nabarangpur district.
Eleven projects will be executed under Parbati Giri Mega Lift Irrigation Project. A sum of Rs 1272 crore will be spent for this. These projects on completion will irrigate 50,000 hectares in about 120 villages of Nandahandi, Nabarangpur and Tentlikhunti blocks.Similarly, foundation stone was also laid for Turi-Guntat irrigation project. Two barrages will be constructed under this project.A sum of Rs 577 will be spent for this project. On completion this project will irrigate 20,000 acre in 40 villages of Nabarangpur and Kosagumuda block.
With the use of modern technology irrigation will be provided through underground pipelines which would not require any displacement in all the projects.
Attending the program through video conferencing, the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said that he has special attention for Nabarangpur district.
“Under my instructions in the month of March, 5T Chairman visited Nabarangpur.He met you. He visited various developmental works. We will implement all proposals given by you. In the next few years Nabarangpur is going to undergo a major transformation in the infrastructure sector,” the Chief Minister said.
“Today is a day of happiness for Nabarangpur district, I met you a few days ago during the launch of LACCMI Scheme. I believe, LACCMI Scheme would be making your life easier”.
The Chief Minister said that agriculture is the backbone of our economy and social system. For that reason I have always emphasized on development of agriculture and welfare of farmers, he added.
Several large irrigation projects are being executed across the state, he informed.
For farmers KALIA yojana and interest-free loan up to Rs 1 lakh is being provided, he said.
“Without development of farmers and women developmental goals cannot be achieved. Therefore welfare of farmers and women has been my prime focus”, he stated.
Throwing light on the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY), the Chief Minister informed that it has been now decided to include all the people of the village in BSKY. Now 90 percent of the people of the state will get better healthcare for free. He said that his aim is to ensure that no one is deprived of better healthcare due to lack of money. He opined that development of all is real development.
Participating in the programme, Water Resources Minister Tukuni Sahu said that during the launch of the LACCMI Yojana, the people of Nabarangpur district were happy to know that these two projects have been approved. With the laying the foundation stone for this project by the Chief Minister today their happiness has doubled.
Sahu said more than 90% of people in Nabarangpur depend on agriculture. This project is being implemented with an aim that they can do better farming, she added.
She said that LACCMI Bus would be helpful for them to sell their agriculture produce.
Participating in the program, 5T and Nabin Odisha Chairman VK Pandian recalled his visit to Nabarangpur and said that he had met several people then. He said that several people had told him then about several people in rural areas being deprived of the benefits under BSKY and had suggested for doing something for them. He informed that keeping this in mind Chief Minister has launched Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana- Nabin Card. He informed that the registration for this will start from January 6.
Among others, Nabarangpur MLA Sadasiv Pradhani, Nabarangpur MP Ramesh Chandra Majhi and Zilla Parishad president took part in the programme.
Development Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary Anu Garg delivered the welcome address and Engineer-in-Chief of Water Resources Department gave vote of thanks.
