Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 4 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) to the next of kin of each of the six migrant workers from Odisha who died in a tragic accident at the Satyakrishna Granite Quarry near Ballikurava in Andhra Pradesh’s Bapatla district.
Taking to social media platform X, the Chief Minister’s Office confirmed the announcement and stated that upon learning of the incident, the Chief Minister expressed deep grief over the loss of lives.
The deceased workers — Danda Badatya (48), Banamala Chehra (30), Bhaskar Bhishoi (40), and Santosh Goud (36) from Ganjam district, along with Takun Dalai (37) and Musa Jan from Gajapati district — were working at the privately operated granite quarry when a large section of the quarry edge suddenly collapsed, burying several workers under boulders.
“He has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) to the next of kin of each deceased,” the post on X further stated.
According to reports, around 20 labourers were working at the privately operated granite quarry when a large section of the quarry’s edge suddenly collapsed, burying several workers under massive boulders. As a result, six migrant workers from Odisha lost their lives in the tragic incident.
