Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced financial assistance of Rs 4 lakhs for a devotee who lost his life during Rath Yatra in Puri on Sunday.
The deceased man has been identified as Lalit Bagarti of Saintala, Balangir district.
CM Majhi has expressed his deep grief over the death of the devotee and extended his condolences to the bereaved family, praying for the enlightenment of the departed soul.
As per reports, Lalit lost his life after being suffocated during a stampede near the Taladhwaja chariot of Lord Balabhadra.
CM has also announced free treatment for devotees injured devotees in Rath Yatra.
There was a similar stampede-like incident during the procession of pulling Nandighosh Rath, the chariot of Lord Jagannath.
According to sources, over 300 individuals were hospitalized due to discomfort caused by the high humidity and large crowds during the Rath Yatra in the holy city. Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, and Health Secretary Shalini Pandit visited hospitals to inquire about the well-being of those receiving treatment for their injuries.
