Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of four labourers who died of asphyxiation while working on a septic tank in Nabarangpur district.
This was informed by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Odisha, via its official social media handle on X (formerly Twitter).
“Chief Minister Shri @MohanMOdisha has expressed deep grief over the loss of lives of M. Santu, Aamir Khara, Lalu Rana, and Trilochana Bhatra in an accident at Nandahandi in Nabarangpur district. He has also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) to the next of kin of each deceased,” read the social media post on X.
Meanwhile, the incident occurred in Padalguda village under Nandahandi block, where the labourers had been engaged in cleaning and construction work on a septic tank. According to initial reports, the workers lost consciousness due to suspected oxygen deficiency inside the tank and collapsed at the site.
Upon receiving information, personnel from the fire services department reached the site and rescued the workers. They were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in Nabarangpur, but were declared brought dead by doctors.
