The incident took place around 10.30 am at Banspal market area under Banspal block. The deceased woman, identified as Kalpana, was reportedly drying clothes in the yard of her house when an overhead electric wire came into contact with the clothesline, leading to electrocution. Her son, Subhrajit, rushed to her on hearing her screams and was also electrocuted when he touched her. Kalpana’s mother-in-law, who attempted to rescue them, sustained an electric shock as well.
All three were immediately rushed to the Banspal Community Health Centre (CHC) by family members and local residents. Doctors declared Kalpana and her son brought dead. The mother-in-law, who suffered serious injuries, was later shifted to the Keonjhar District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for further treatment.
