Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced an ex-gratia payment of ₹5 lakh each for the next of kin of three workers killed in a tragic bridge collapse in Cuttack’s Khan Nagar, with funds to be disbursed from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. The incident, which occurred during the construction of a bridge over the Kathajodi River today, also left two workers seriously injured.

Expressing profound grief, the Chief Minister extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wished for the swift recovery of the injured. He has ensured that the two injured workers, currently admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital, receive free medical treatment.

The collapse of a slab at the under-construction site initially injured five workers, three of whom—site engineer Soumya Ranjan Behera, Shiba Shankar Patnaik, and Subhash Chandra Bhakta—succumbed to their injuries. The surviving workers, Bikala Jena and Arun Barik, are receiving critical care.

Majhi has ordered a comprehensive investigation to uncover the cause of the accident and prevent future tragedies, emphasizing accountability and worker safety.
