Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday announced an ex-gratia of Rs 6 lakh to the next of kin of 21-year-old Odisha student R. Roopa, a BSc Nursing student from Gudipadar in Ganjam district, who was among nine people killed in a stampede at the Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple at Kasibugga of Srikakulam district in Andhra Pradesh.
Expressing deep grief over the loss, CM Majhi conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family. The compensation will be provided from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF).

Meanwhile, in the incident, R. Roopa lost her life, while one of her relatives sustained critical injuries and is undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
The stampede occurred during Ekadashi celebrations, when a massive crowd of devotees led to chaos and panic. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed grief over the incident and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to those injured.
