Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday gave his approval for implementation of the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP-2020) in the higher education sector in the State from the current academic year (2024-25).
According to an official press release, the Chief Minister gave his approval for implementation of this new education policy in all Public universities and affiliated colleges under the Higher Education Department of the Odisha government.
This step is intended to bring about many changes in the education system of the state.
According to the new Education Policy 2020, a four-year undergraduate course is going to be started in Odisha, in which Certificate, Diploma, Degree, and Degree Honours will be awarded to the eligible students after each year.
The State-level Credit Framework has been prepared on the basis of the Credit Framework provided by UGC and appropriate credits have been given in it along with providing opportunities for skill development and internship. Credit will also be given for community service and extra-curricular activities, N.C.C. NSS. etc.
In this way, students can choose their subjects on their own and complete their degree course within 7 years with multiple entry and exit to higher educational institutions.
As per the new Education Policy 2020, steps are being taken to make the higher education system of Odisha more qualitative, autonomous and inclusive.
It aims to increase research and innovation through various schemes, enhance skills through practical-based education and internships with industries etc. The curriculum will be made more employment-oriented and industry-relevant.
For this, currently 40 graduate core subjects with detailed model syllabus, 2 skill development courses, 112 multi-disciplinary courses, 14 vocational courses, 56 value-added courses and 84 skill development courses have been approved.
This will enable universities under the Higher Education Department of the state government to implement the National Education Policy as per the new syllabus and credit framework.
