Gukesh’s win came in Round 6 of the prestigious tournament. Despite being under pressure for much of the game, the 18-year-old Grandmaster staged a remarkable comeback, capitalizing on a series of errors by Carlsen under time pressure.
The result marks Gukesh’s first-ever classical victory over the five-time World Champion and has sent ripples through the global chess community.
The win also boosts Gukesh’s preparations for the upcoming Candidates Tournament, where he will represent India with a shot at the world title.
