Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has stressed the need for an amicable resolution to the ongoing Mahanadi water dispute between Odisha and Chhattisgarh. In a high-level meeting at Lok Seva Bhavan, Majhi emphasised that while efforts are being made through the Central Water Commission, progress is slow.
The Chief Minister suggested that with the support of the Central Government, the two states can resolve the issue through talks. The Central Water Commission can provide technical cooperation to facilitate a resolution.
This development comes after discussions between Majhi and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bishnu Deo Sai on the sidelines of the All India State Water Resources Ministers’ Conference in February and World Water Day in Bhubaneswar in March. Both Chief Ministers had emphasised resolving the dispute.
High-level officials from both states are already engaged in discussions to find a solution. The meeting was attended by key officials, including Advocate General Pitambar Acharya, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, and senior officers of the Water Resources Department.
