Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has expressed deep grief over the loss of lives of two school students while immersing Goddess Saraswati idols in river Kuakhai near Ranga Bazaar under Balianta block on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.
He announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh from the State Disaster Relief Fund for the families of the deceased.

The deceased students have been identified as Divya Jyoti Mahalik (15) of Bhubaneswar Unit 6 Kalimandir area and Sikun Sahabi (15) of Unit 6 Ganganagar area in the city.
According to reports, Sikun and Divya Jyoti along with their friends from a private coaching center went to the Kuakhai river to immerse the Saraswati idol. Sikun and Divya Jyoti slipped into deep water and drowned.
The friends of these students informed their parents and the Balianta police. Soon, Fire Services personnel and Balianta police launched a search operation for the boys. The students were rescued and rushed to the Capital Hospital where the doctors declared them brought dead.
