Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati on Wednesday participated in a cleanliness drive under the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign at the busy Master Canteen area in Bhubaneswar, marking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday.
The event saw senior BJP leaders, including Odisha BJP president Manmohan Samal and state BJP in-charge Vijaypal Singh Tomar, join the campaign by picking up brooms and dustpans to clean the streets alongside party workers and volunteers.
Speaking to reporters at the site, CM Majhi called the day a moment of “national pride” and recalled PM Modi’s previous visit to the state.
“Last year on this day, Prime Minister Modi celebrated his birthday in Odisha by eating ‘Kheer’ made by a woman from Sabar Sahi in Gadakana. That day was also when the ‘Subhadra Yojana’ was launched,” CM Majhi said.
He highlighted the government’s commitment to the health and well-being of women and families, linking the day’s cleanliness initiative to broader social welfare goals.
“This campaign reflects the government’s vision to ensure clean surroundings, women’s health, and family safety. On PM Modi’s birthday, we are not only celebrating his leadership but also reaffirming our commitment to the Swachh Bharat Mission,” the Chief Minister added.
The ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ initiative, launched in the run-up to Gandhi Jayanti, is part of the nationwide effort to promote cleanliness and community responsibility. Party workers and volunteers were seen enthusiastically cleaning public spaces and urging passersby to maintain hygiene.
