Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on securing a landmark trade agreement with the United States, reducing tariffs on Indian exports to 18% from 25%.
Majhi hailed the move as a “historic advancement in India-United States economic relations”, strengthening Indo-US ties and enhancing India’s global economic presence.
In a post on X, Majhi said, “I extend my sincere congratulations and gratitude to PM Shri @narendramodi Ji for his decisive leadership and people-focused diplomacy, strengthening Indo-US ties and enhancing India’s global economic presence.”
The trade deal, announced by US President Donald Trump, is expected to boost Indian manufacturing, MSMEs, exporters, and job creation, while opening up new markets and opportunities for entrepreneurs and startups. Majhi emphasized that the reduction in tariffs will empower MSMEs, artisans, and small manufacturers, promoting export-led growth and self-reliance.
The deal is poised to benefit Odisha’s economy, positioning the state as a strategic hub for critical minerals and a key player in the global EV and semiconductor supply chains. Coastal communities are expected to gain from increased competitiveness of marine exports, promising sustainable growth and livelihood opportunities.
Industry leaders and experts welcome the deal, citing its potential to enhance India’s global competitiveness, attract investments, and create jobs. The agreement is seen as a significant step towards strengthening India-US economic ties.
