Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday urged newly recruited government employees to uphold honesty and transparency throughout their service, reminding them that they had entered public service through a fair, merit-based recruitment process. He was addressing recruits during the 12th ‘Nijukti Mela O Prasikshyan Karyakram’ (Appointment Fair and Training Programme-2025) held at Kalinga Stadium.
A total of 7,293 candidates received appointment letters across 12 departments. These include 1,979 constables and 386 drivers in the Home Department; 1,913 graduate teachers and 241 post-graduate teachers under School & Mass Education; junior assistants, seven PETs and 31 laboratory assistant-cum-storekeepers in Higher Education; 24 assistant fisheries officers and 648 livestock inspectors under Fisheries & ARD; 39 SDIPROs in the I&PR Department; 14 junior chemists in Geology & Mining; 17 junior stenographers in Commerce & Transport; 1,504 forest guards and 246 foresters under Forest & Environment; 117 assistant agriculture officers, 15 paramedical staff, 36 assistant executive engineers (mechanical) in Water Resources; and for the first time through regular recruitment, 40 stenographers for the Advocate General’s Office.
Reaffirming the government’s employment commitment, the Chief Minister said that a target had been set to provide 65,000 government jobs within two years. “In just 17 months, including today’s event, 37,325 appointments have been made through 12 appointment fairs — an unprecedented pace in Odisha’s history,” Majhi noted. He added that efforts are underway to surpass the recruitment target within the stipulated period.
The Chief Minister further highlighted the government’s push toward industrial employment, stating that projects worth ₹2 lakh crore have been grounded, creating work opportunities for 1.5 lakh youths. “Our dedication to the youth power of Odisha will continue unhindered,” he said.
Reiterating the state’s zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, Majhi cautioned the recruits: “Consider corruption as poison and stay far away from it, or it will harm your career. Every step you take should contribute to Odisha’s progress.”
He also urged them to follow four core principles in service:
1.Provide compassionate and just service to the public.
2.Maintain excellence in work.
3.Continuously upgrade knowledge and stay in tune with changing times.
4.Uphold honesty and transparency in the workplace.
Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, welcoming the recruits, said government employees must work where they are posted and ensure justice to the people. School & Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond said the accelerated recruitment in the education sector will help strengthen quality schooling. Fisheries & ARD Minister Gokulananda Mallik and Forest & Environment Minister Ganesh Ram Singh Khuntia also addressed the gathering, urging recruits to serve with dedication and integrity.
During the programme, the Chief Minister handed over appointment letters to 30 candidates from various departments. New appointees including Bansingh Majhi (Keonjhar), Sasmita Pradhan (Khordha), Debendra Padiami (Malkangiri) and Anwesha Ray (Jagatsinghpur) shared their experiences and thanked the state government for ensuring transparent recruitment.
Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Satyabrata Sahu delivered the welcome address, while School & Mass Education Commissioner-cum-Secretary N. Thirumala Naik proposed the vote of thanks.
