Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today visited Kalinga Studios and directed its development into a fully modern film studio. He also instructed the Industries Department to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the project.
Established in 1980, Kalinga Studios was once the only studio in eastern India equipped with advanced film production technology. However, over the years, demand declined due to outdated equipment and lack of modernization. Currently, renovation and improvement work is ongoing.
Following the new government’s assumption of office, the Chief Minister ordered departmental officers to prioritize the studio’s modernization. In the first phase, key infrastructure including the tech building, entrance plaza, indoor shooting system, Kalinga Movie Magic, Avenue Land, Village Area, Iconic Landmark, Snow World, Community Hall, Bamboo Structure, and green areas have been developed.
The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of the studio’s development for the growth of Odia cinema. He assured that the studio will become a self-contained facility with state-of-the-art amenities. The project will proceed after consultations with industry stakeholders.
Industry and Skill Development Minister Sampad Chandra Swain accompanied the Chief Minister during the visit. Additional Chief Secretary Hemant Sharma briefed the officials on the project status. Samarth Verma, Managing Director of Odisha Film Development Corporation, and Bhupendra Singh Poonia, Managing Director of IDCOR, were also present.
The Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO) is overseeing the development work, which is expected to accelerate the revival of the studio’s legacy.
