Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has ordered a high-level probe into the death of a five-year-old female elephant in Sambalpur district. The elephant died after coming into contact with a live wire allegedly laid by someone to steal electricity in Sarpali village.

Expressing grief over the incident, Majhi assured that those involved will face strict action. A team led by Chief Conservator of Forests Manoj Nair has been dispatched to investigate the incident.

Senior forest officers and Energy Department officials have also visited the spot. This incident follows the death of another female wild elephant in Angul district, suspected to be due to illness. The probe team will look into the circumstances surrounding the Sambalpur incident and identify those responsible.
