Bhubaneswar: In a show of support, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday spoke to the father of the Odia medical student who was gang-raped in Durgapur, West Bengal. The victim’s father, a resident of Jaleswar in Balasore district, received a phone call from the Chief Minister, who expressed his condolences and assured him of all possible assistance.
The Chief Minister said he was “extremely saddened and heartbroken” upon learning about the incident and understood the mental state of the victim’s family. He assured the father that the state government was committed to ensuring the speedy recovery of the girl and her return to a normal life.
Majhi stated that a strong demand has been made to the West Bengal Chief Minister for strict punishment of the culprits. A senior Odisha official is in touch with the West Bengal government to provide legal and necessary assistance. The Chief Minister has also directed the SP of Balasore to stay in touch with the Durgapur police and provide necessary assistance.
The victim’s father thanked the Chief Minister for his sympathy and assistance, appreciating the state government’s efforts to support his daughter in this difficult time.
