Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed his happiness over the return of Adarsh Kumar Behera, who was held hostage in Sudan for over a month.

Hailing from Jagatsinghpur Behera, who was abducted by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia in Sudan’s Darfur region, arrived at Bhubaneswar airport today, bringing joy to his family and loved ones.

According to reports, the Odisha government had been in constant touch with Behera’s family and provided all necessary measures to bring him back to Odisha.

Following his return, the Chief Minister thanked the Central Government’s Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy in Sudan for their efforts in bringing Behera back safely. The state government had written to the Ministry of External Affairs, requesting their intervention in rescuing Behera.

The Indian Embassy in Sudan, with the help of international mediators, worked tirelessly to secure Behera’s release.

Taking to his X account, CM wrote: “It is a matter of immense joy that Adarsh Kumar Behera, a young Odia man from Jagatsinghpur district who had gone missing in Sudan, is returning to his homeland safely. The state government had taken the matter of Adarsh’s disappearance with utmost seriousness upon receiving information about it. We had been continuously coordinating with the Ministry of External Affairs to ensure his safe rescue. Through the swift actions of the Government of India and cooperation with international mediators, Adarsh is returning to his family today. I extend my thanks to the Central Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy in Sudan for this successful mission. The safety and well-being of every Odia, whether within the state or abroad, is the top priority of our government. In times of crisis, we are always and forever by your side.”
