Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has urged ICICI, Axis, and HDFC banks to enhance loan disbursement to poor people under various welfare schemes. The Chief Minister held discussions with representatives of the three banks at Lok Seva Bhavan and emphasised the need to boost loan disbursement to poor beneficiaries.
The bank representatives accepted the Chief Minister’s suggestion and assured him that they would step up loan disbursement to the poor soon.
Notably, the state government had removed these banks from its empanelled list on June 21 due to their poor performance in various schemes, including agriculture loans, Pradhan Mantri Rozgar Shriti Yojana (PMEGP), PM Swanidhi Yojana, Standup India Yojana, housing loans, education loans, and export loans.
The Chief Minister stressed that banks play a crucial role in the government’s poverty alleviation initiatives and advised the banks to provide loans to more people in various schemes that benefit the poor. He noted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the central government has implemented various welfare schemes for the poor, and banks are a key medium in these initiatives. Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary, Saswata Mishra, informed the Chief Minister about the banks’ performance.
