Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has swung into action to provide essential facilities to Habisyalis, observing Kartika Brata at Jagannath Dham in Puri.
Chief Minister Mohan Majhi has instructed departmental officers, the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration and the District Collector to take all necessary measures for the elderly women.
In an ‘X’ post, Majhi stated “After learning about the plight of some Habisyali from various media, I have personally instructed the departmental officers, the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration and the District Collector to take all possible measures to provide all facilities to the Habisyalis. The government is committed to providing all kinds of facilities to the Habisyali who come from outside districts and observe Habisa Brata at Jagannath Dham Puri.”
Deputy CM Pravati Parida visited the Habisyali shelter centre in Puri. She said that the government has allocated Rs 2.56 crore for Habisyalis this year. “We have also resolved the issues pertaining to the Habisyalis. We will try to improve the system next year,” she added.
Collector Siddharth Shankar Swain visited the protest site outside Brundaban Ashram and assured the Habisyalis of proper accommodation arrangements.
The government is committed to providing accommodation facilities for Habisyalis from outside districts and essential amenities for them during their observance of Habisa Brata.
The Habisyalis had been protesting due to the unavailability of accommodation facilities, due to unexpected closure of the registration portal. However, with the administration’s intervention, the situation has been resolved.
