Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has directed the administration to ensure the safe return of 35 Odia workers reported to be held captive in Laos.

As per the direction of the Chief Minister, the Labour Commissioner has taken up the issue with the Indian embassy in Laos.

The Embassy authorities have informed that they are in touch with the labourers and all necessary steps will be taken for their safe return to India.

Notably, labourers, who were allegedly held captive in Southeast Asian country, in a video message urged the State government to bring them back.

They said the company where they were working stopped its operations. The company neither allowed them to return nor paid wages.
