Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today lauded Arun Kumar Swain, the IIC of Nayapalli police station for his heroic deed when he set aside his VIP duty to rescue a person under a knife attack.
CM Naveen took to Twitter to praise IIC Swain for his ‘unprecedented courage on the field’. He added, “His bravery and commitment are in highest traditions of Odisha Police and an inspiration for all.”
Notably, a person named Abhay Kumar Nayak was chased by two persons with a knife on Wednesday morning. Abhay was already injured and profusely bleeding near the Regional Passport office when the IIC, on his way for a VIP duty, spotted him.
Transforming into a ‘Bollywood hero’, he immediately jumped out of his car and started chasing the assailants. While one was nabbed, the other managed to escape. Arun Swain helped the injured Abhay get to the Capital Hospital in his vehicle.
“The victim was attacked by two assailants due to the previous enmity. Both of them have been arrested. The injured person is now being shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital,” informed Anup Sahoo, DCP, Bhubaneswar.
As per reports, Ahay’s uncle Rabindra has a makeshift shop near the RPO. Someone destroyed it in the night. Abhay and Rabindra suspected two persons Bijay and Smruti to be behind the mischief due to a past feud. It was followed by a heated argument among the four which turned into a scuffle. Bijay and Smruti had even reported the matter to the Nayapalli PS.
But in the meantime, they got the information that Abhay was present near the passport office and attacked him with a knife.
