Bhubaneswar: Due to the floods and heavy rainfall in the second and third week of last August, 24 districts of the state namely: Angul, Bargarh, Boudh, Nayagarh, Sambalpur, Subarnapur, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Khurda, Puri, Bhadrak, Balasore, Jajpur, Kenajhar, Mayurbhanj, Balangir, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Nuapada and Sundergarh were affected. The concerned districts and departments were directed to assess the damage caused by the flood and heavy rainfall.
According to the damage assessment data received from the district administration, 14,235 houses, 1,236 cow sheds damaged, 5,036 hectares of agricultural land were sand cast. As much as 33 percent crops were damaged in 1, 26, 162 hectares of agricultural land.
An amount of Rs 128.58 crore has been sanctioned as per the instructions of the Chief Minister towards house construction assistance, assistance for utensils, agriculture-based assistance, assistance for removal of sand casting, assistance for dead cattle, assistance for damaged boats and fishing nets, fishing ponds, fish spawn farming, handloom weavers, handicraft artisans, and sericulture farmers based on the damage assessment of District Collectors and as per the terms and conditions of the Disaster Relief Fund.
Similarly, Rs 99,92, 97,000 has been sanctioned to the District Collectors till date as per the instructions of the Chief Minister for the food aid to the affected people in marooned areas.
Meanwhile, reports of damage to public property have been received from Water Resources Department, Urban Development Department, Rural Development Department, Housing and Urban Development Department and Energy Department.
For immediate restoration of public property, Rs 5277.69 lakh is needed for Water Resources Department, Rs 2019.44 lakh for Urban Development Department, Rs 4254.70 lakh for Rural Development Department, Rs 607.72 lakh for Housing and Urban Development Department and for Rs 503.38 lakh Power Department.
But as per the terms and conditions of the Disaster Relief Fund, Rs 4353.92 Lakhs to Water Resources Department, Rs 1367.25 Lakh to Urban Development Department, Rs 2414.37 Lakhs to Rural Development Department, Rs82.46 Lakhs to Housing and Urban Development Department and Rs.497.51 Lakhs to Power Department from the Disaster Relief Fund has been granted.
As such, a total sum of Rs.8715.51 lakhs has been sanctioned to the said departments for the immediate repair and restoration of common property as per the instructions of the Chief Ministe
