Bhubaneswar: Newly appointed Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) Commissioner Kirandeep Kaur Sahota has acted tough against tardiness among employees. Sahota has issued show-cause notices to Joint Commissioner Barendra Mohanty (OAS) and 30 other employees for reaching office late.
The notice directs the employees to explain within 24 hours why their salaries should not be stopped due to their negligence in duty. The notice states that despite repeated instructions, the employees continue to arrive late, hampering official work.
“It has come to the notice of the undersigned that, you were found absent from your seat today till 10.30 A.M Inspite of repeated instructions, you are not coming office on time. Due to your absence in the office, the official works of your seat are being severely hampered. Hence, you are hereby called upon to explain why your salary shall not be held up due to your negligence in duty,” read the notification.
The employees who have been issued show-cause notices include senior assistants, junior assistants, computer assistants, fee collectors, peons, sweepers, and electric helpers. The list includes names such as Menaka Das, Jayakrushna Ranasingh, Soumya Ranjan Panda, and others.
The action taken by Commissioner Sahota has served as a warning to erring officials and employees to reach the office on time. The employees have been given 24 24-hour ultimatum to respond to the notice, failing which action will be taken against them.
Sahota took charge as CMC Commissioner on July 23 and has emphasised the importance of punctuality and discipline in the workplace.
