Cuttack: While the State and the city as well is witnessing exponential rise Covid-19 positive cases during the ongoing second wave of the Coronavirus pandemic, dumping of used PPE kits, hand gloves, masks and other medical waste in heaps on the banks of river Mahanadi near Jagatpur has caused panic among the residents here.
Such irresponsible dumping of medical waste during a pandemic compromises the health of the citizens, some see it as a catastrophe in the waiting as Covid-19 is a highly contagious killer disease that can spread through the aerosol path.
As per Covid protocol, such disposable hospital waste is either to be safely incinerated or buried.
As matter the came to light resulting in public outcry, the administration has hurriedly set the dumps on fire.
“The Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) is enquiring into it. Surely action will be taken against those who are flouting Covid rules. But certainly, after the enquiry is over,” said Cuttack Collector Bhabani Shankar Chayani talking to reporters here.
