Bhubaneswar: Soon after ex-Union Minister Dilip Ray was sentenced to three years of imprisonment along with other convicts by the Special CBI Court in New Delhi, all the convicts could avail relief from the Delhi High Court as their bail applications were granted.
All the convicts were present at the Special CBI Court today when the quantum of punishment was pronounced by the judge.
Speculations were rife if they all would be languishing in jail from today onwards or get bail from the court as the quantum of punishment is of three years imprisonment.
However, they all got bailed out as their respective lawyers had already got ready to move the court for bail pleas close on the heels of the quantum of punishment pronounced.
Notably, Dilip Ray, the then Additional Coal Secretary Pradip Kumar Banerjee, the then Ministry of Coal (Projects)’s adviser Nityanand Gautam and CTL promoter Mahendra Kumar Agarwalla have been convicted in this coal scam case of 1999.
