Bhubaneswar: In a bid to maintain transparency and discipline within the state’s correctional facilities, Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services, Sushant Kumar Nath, has instructed all Collectors and Superintendents of Police (SPs) to regularly visit jails in their respective jurisdiction.

This move aims to ensure that prisoners live in a healthy environment and address concerns over inmate welfare. The directive comes amid reports of poor living conditions in some jails, which have drawn concern from the National Human Rights Commission and the State Human Rights Commission.

The DG’s letter emphasises the importance of regular jail visits to maintain transparency and discipline in jail management.
