Bhubaneswar: A college girl suffered a fracture in her hip after she jumped into the river Mahanadi in a bid to commit suicide at Kiakata bridge in Boudh district on Thursday.
Sandhyasini Pradhan, a plus three first year student of Bamada Model College in Kiakata jumped off the bridge on her way home from College.
She went to the college in the morning on her cycle and attended classes. On return, she kept her cycle and bag on the bridge and jumped into the deep water.
Some local youths were taking baths near the place and saw the girl swept away. They immediately swung into action and fished her out of the water.
She was immediately taken to Boudh district headquarters hospital. Doctors found a fracture in hip.
Police seized the cycle, bag and shoe of the girl and launched an inquiry to find why she jumped into the river.
