Jajpur: A lecturer of Chitalo Degree Mahavidyalaya was placed under suspension on Wednesday after his arrest in connection with the alleged misappropriation of over ₹32 lakh meant for a government-sponsored self-defence programme for girls, officials said.
The suspension order was issued by Jajpur Sub-Collector Tapas Ranjan Dehury, who is also the president of the college’s governing body, four days after Adwaita Prasad Mallik, a lecturer in Odia, was arrested by the Vigilance Department and remanded to judicial custody on January 2.
A recommendation seeking approval of the suspension has been forwarded to the Higher Education Department.
According to the order, Mallik has been placed under suspension with immediate effect following his remand to judicial custody. The Principal Secretary of the Higher Education Department has been requested to accord approval and make the necessary arrangements related to the suspension.
Mallik, who previously served as the officiating principal of the college, has been booked under multiple sections of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, along with relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
In the same case, the Vigilance Department also arrested Badri Narayan Ray, former president of the college’s governing body, on January 2. Both are accused of misappropriating ₹32,07,620 allocated for the self-defence training programme for girl students.
