Khordha: A college principal in Khordha district has been arrested after he allegedly sent obscene messages and made unsolicited love proposals to a woman lecturer, triggering widespread outrage in the region. The incident took place at Paramananda Mahavidyalaya in Bolagarh block.
According to reports, the woman, newly appointed as a lecturer in the Chemistry department, began receiving inappropriate text and voice messages from the principal a few months ago. The content of the messages, described as indecent and vulgar, left her deeply disturbed.
Unable to cope with the harassment, she informed her parents about the matter. Her father subsequently lodged a complaint at Bolagarh police station, accusing the principal of repeatedly sending obscene messages and attempting to proposition his daughter.
Acting on the complaint, police registered a case and arrested the principal. He was produced before the court on Wednesday.
The incident has sparked anger among locals and education circles, with many questioning the safety of women in academic institutions. Citizens have expressed concern that such behaviour from a senior official in an educational setting undermines the very environment meant to nurture and protect students and staff.
Police have begun further investigation into the case.
