Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police on Tuesday cracked the case involving the murder of a hotelier at his residence in Hirapur village under Balianta police limits on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar and arrested the accused Sunki Rana.
Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh told the media on Tuesday that one Purna Prakash Nayak, a resident of Hirapur village under Balianta police station, lodged a written report with the police that his elder brother Biswajit Nayak was found dead at his residence in the village and unidentified culprits murdered him brutally.
The murder might have occurred two to three days before the dead body was traced by the family members. Purna Chandra Nayak demanded that the police investigate the incident and arrest the accused.
During the investigation, it transpired that the accused was Sunki Rana (36), a native of Jharsuguda and was involved in a murder case previously. After her release from jail four years ago she was staying at a temple in Puri and came in contact with deceased Biswajit Nayak through his mother.
The police alleged that an affair developed between the deceased and accused Sunki Rana and Sunki frequented the house of the deceased taking permission from the head of the temple that she was going to visit her native village.
On December 30 last year, Sunki visited Biswajit’s house and stayed with him but received regular phone calls from Puri enquiring about her return. So, she approached Biswajit to allow her to go to Puri but Biswajit did not allow her to leave. Around 3.00 pm on January, 2024, quarrel between the two and Sunki suddenly attacked Biswajit with a wooden stick on his head resulting in the latter’s death.
Sunki waited there for some time, concealed the blood-stained wooden stick, and left the place in the evening by an auto-rickshaw. She was arrested from Puri and will be forwarded to the court.
The police have recovered the blood-stained wooden stick used as the weapon of offence, the blood-stained clothes she was wearing on the fateful day, and a mobile phone from the accused.
