Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Saturday arrested one Samarendra Biswal from Odisha’s Balasore on charges of his wife’s murder two years ago. According to Girija Chakraborty, ACP (Zone 2), the accused, a resident of the Lingaraj police station area in Bhubaneswar, has been absconding since committing the crime in December 2021.
He said that Samarendra’s relationship with his wife Namita Sahu had soured and they had frequent domestic fights. The accused had even stopped supporting his family. The couple argued over some issue on the night of December 21, 2021, and matters turned worse when the accused sat on Namita and suffocated her with a scarf resulting in her death.
Samarendra fled the scene soon after committing the crime and has been absconding since then.
“The police subsequently sent Namita’s body for post-mortem and it was confirmed that it was a homicidal death,” the ACB said, adding, “We called Samarendra’s son and a case was registered.”
The Lingaraj police have been on the lookout for Samarendra since December 2021 and on Saturday they received information that the accused was travelling by a private bus to Balasore. Accordingly, a team from Lingaraj police station waited for him at the Balasore bus stand and nabbed the accused as soon as he alighted from the bus.
