**Bhubaneswar: ** Commissionerate Police on Saturday swooped down on the headquarters of Ortel Communication Limited here at Chandrasekharpur acting on an FIR filed by Sony Network against Ortel for allegedly broadcasting non-permitted Sony Network signals.
The raid was conducted by the Commissionerate Police under the supervision of ACP Rabi Satpathy.
Talking to OMMCOM NEWS, Bhubaneswar DCP Anup Sahu said, “Sony had lodged a complaint of Copyright access and cheating. They have also given a CD that despite expiry of their term period, Ortel is transmitting their signal including the football match. All the decorders of Sony channels have been seized. We have also asked them to produce the agreement copies that have to be examined.”
He added, “We’re not going to affect the other things. But they (Ortel) should ensure that they should not transmit those things for which they have no permission.”
On being further queried, the DCP replied, “No arrest has been made so far.”
Sony TV had alleged that Ortel did not have permission to broadcast their channel following which a written complaint had been lodged at the Chandrashekharpur Police Station for “offences punishable under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) 1860 and Copy Right Act 1957.”
As per the FIR registered on June 14, “Hunt Wellington Consultants Pvt. Ltd. has been authorized by Sony Pictures Networks India Pvt Ltd and TV Today Network Limited to lodge this complaint against Jimut Pattojoshi and Chiita Ranjan Nayak who through their company M/s Ortel Communication Limited, is illegally showing programs of the aforesaid Complainant’s Company/ Broadcasters in the area of Chandpur, Khurda, Odisha.”
“The accused persons are doing piracy and showing the complainants’ channels illegally in Chandpur, Khurda, Odisha which has been recorded by me for evidence purpose,” as mentioned in the FIR filed by complainant Prabir Bhadra of Hunt Wellington Consultants Pvt. Ltd.
On the contrary, Ortel has denied Sony Network’s allegations terming it a false complaint filed by Sony TV.
