Dhenkanal: India is proud of Hrudananda Das, a student of BB High School in Dhenkanal who finished the tenth grade this year.
At the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships on July 14 at Greater Noida’s Gautam Buddha University, Das took home the gold medal.
Das, from Weightlifting HPC Dhenkanal Sub-Centre, won the 73 kg Youth Category event with a total lift of 250 kg. He was given a rousing welcome on his return to his hometown Dhenkanal on Tuesday.
Dhenkanal Collector Saroj Kumar Sethi felicitated Das and said that the young weightlifter has brought glory to the district and the State. “It is a matter of pride Dhenkanal,” he said.
Das’ coach Gopal Kurshna Das said that he has always been ambitious and passionate for weightlifting and the dedication of this young weightlifter was always directed towards the Gold.
On Day 3 of the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships 2023, Das won gold in Men’s 73kg Youth Category with a total lift of 250kg – 110 kg in snatch, 140 kg in clean and jerk.
Today, those who reached the finals or won medals were extended a warm welcome by various institutions and were taken on a procession around Dhenkanal town followed by a felicitation ceremony at the Collectorate.
