Bhubaneswar: The regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here on Saturday informed that the prevailing conditions are favourable for further advancement of southwest monsoon into new areas of the south Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands during the next three days.
In addition, it said that a trough runs from western Bihar to Telangana and another one from north interior Karnataka to Tamil Nadu at lower tropospheric levels.
“A fresh western disturbance is likely to affect northwest India from May 23,” said the IMD.
Under the influence of a fresh western disturbance, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning/gusty winds over the western Himalayan region and isolated to scattered rainfall may occur over plains of northwest India, especially between May 23 and May 26, and decrease thereafter.
Thunder squall (speed 50-60 kmph) with hail and lightning likely over Uttarakhand on May 24.
Meanwhile, the IMD has issued an orange warning for light to moderate rain or thunderstorm at a few places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nawarangpur, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Nayagarh,
Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Nuapada, Kalahandi, and some places in several Odisha districts.
According to the IMD, there is unlikely to be any major change in maximum temperature (day temperature) at many places over the districts of Odisha during the next 5 days. It is likely to be 42°C or more at one or two places during the next 24 hours and at a few places during the subsequent four days over in districts of interior Odisha(viz Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Boudh, Sonepur, Bargarh, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Jharsuguda). Consequently, hot and discomfort weather is very likely to prevail.
People have been advised to take precautionary measures while going outside during day time between (11.00 am and 3.00 pm.
