**Bhubaneswar:** Disappointment gripped hockey fans after no Odia player was picked in the conditioning camp for the Hockey World Cup. However, the recent inclusion of local star Amit Rohidas has brought back cheer among the hockey enthusiasts.
The Odisha player, who figured in both Commonwealth Games and Asian Games, was first “dropped” but later brought back in the 26-member core group.
Amit’s strong defence and midfield cover has been acknowledged by veterans of the game. OMMCOM NEWS caught up with the versatile athlete at Kalinga Stadium today.
“I do not have anything to say about the technicalities involved in selection. I am focussed on my practice which is improving day by day,” he said.
The Asian Champions Trophy will provide a good cushion to prepare for the World Cup. The team will try and cover up and rectify the minor mistakes which cost it the top position in Asiad 2018, he added.
Amit exhibited confidence of getting selected in the squad for the Asian Champions Trophy beginning October 18 at Oman.
“Victory and losses are part of every game. Point is not to get dejected or complacent with the results. I will put in my best to secure a position in the playing 11,” the ace defender added.
