Bhubaneswar: A Central team of the Congress including the general secretary of All India Congress Committee (AICC) Randeep Singh Surjewala and the party’s Odisha in-charge A Chellakumar meet the family members of murdered lady teacher Mamita Meher at her residence in Jharni village in Tureikela block of Balangir district on Thursday.
Talking to mediapersons, Surjewala said that the team accompanied by state leaders has come to apply ointment on the wound that is not only on the family but on the soul of Odisha and the whole country. The murder of the 24-year-old teacher has freshened the memory of the Nirbhaya case.
He stated that the Mamita murder case has raised a question on the safety and security of women in the State. The Congress party will fight for providing justice to Mamita said Surjewala while demanding the death penalty for the accused persons within 90 days, at least Rs 1 crore compensation for her family, and a government job for her brother.
