**Cuttack:** Succeeding the midnight raid of police on houses of various Congress workers in Cuttack, party’s district president Mohammed Moquim was today arrested from his residence for his alleged involvement in the Purighat police station ransacking incident.
Police had picked up nearly 20 Congress members including three Corporators during the raid. All of them had on September 11 allegedly ransacked the Purighat police station and manhandled the police personnel in protest of the arrest of one of their members, who tried to barge into the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) office during the ‘Bharat Bandh’ observed by the Congress on September 10.
Prior to the ransacking, Moquim had condemned the arrest of the accused identified as Bijay Kumar Barik and had threatened Purighat IIC to release him.
Informing about the arrest of Moquim, Cuttack DCP Akhileswar Singh informed already five cases have been registered against him in connection with other cases.
The DCP said that a warrantee detained in the Purighat station had alleged of police misbehaviour, however, the CCTV recording of the police station revealed that not a single person have misbehaved with him.
Later in the day, nearly 50-60 persons led by Mohammed Moquim entered the station premises and ransacked it. They also staged a road blockade in front of the police station.
“In connection with the above two cases we detained 24 persons and after verification arrested 17 persons including three Corporators. Out of the arrestees, 10 are habitual offenders with more than one cases registered against them. All of them will be court forwarded today,” added Singh.
