Congress MLA Attributes Decline In Corruption To Naveen’s Image
Bhubaneswar: Senior Congress leader and Kantabanji MLA Santosh Singh Saluja was all praise for Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for Odisha figuring among one of the least corrupt States in India in the ‘India Corruption Survey 2019′.
Saluja credited the Chief Minister’s image for the fall in corruption.
“All credit goes to the Chief Minister. It (corruption) has come down because of the Chief Minister’s image,” said Santosh Singh Saluja.
“If they can bring it down to zero or 10% because of the 5T Initiative of the Chief Minister, then we will think that Odisha’s development has begun,” he added.
Saluja is the second Congress MLA to have praised the Chief Minister and his 5T Initiative recently. It was Congress MLA from Jeypore Tara Prasad Bahinipati who had praised the Chief Minister and his 5T Initiative in the Odisha Assembly.
India Corruption Survey 2019 was conducted by LocalCircles, a community social media platform and Transparency International India.
Odisha along with Delhi, Haryana, Gujarat, West Bengal, Kerala, and Goa are the States where citizens have reported of bribery having reduced by 10 per cent in comparison to last year.
Former Minister and BJD MLA Debi Prasad Mishra has said that the findings of this survey is the reflection of the Chief Minister’s policy of ‘zero tolerance’ towards corruption.
“Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has always said that there has to be zero tolerance towards corruption. So corruption under no circumstance will be tolerated. Naveen babu’s strong leadership is reflected in the State government. Officers of different departments too are following that strictly. This survey is the reflection of that,” said Mishra.
“I want to thank the Chief Minister for this. People are supporting him again and again because there is no corruption. I am hopeful that the 5T Initiative started by Chief Minister will stamp out corruption in the State. Odisha will be a corruption free State in the country,” said Kishore Mohanty, BJD MLA from Brajrajnagar.
On the other hand the BJP has rejected the findings of the survey and questioned the yardstick used by the surveyors.
“What is this corruption survey? What is its yardstick? Is it that one who is simple doesn’t take bribe and the one who is uncouth takes bribe? Is this a yardstick to judge who is corrupt and who is not? I don’t agree with the findings of this survey,” said Leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly and senior BJP leader Pradipta Naik.
