Bhubaneswar: Congress MLA from Barabati-Cuttack Md Moquim on Monday served a legal notice to BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra. The Congress legislator warned of criminal defamation against Patra if he does not immediately apologise publicly for allegedly tarnishing the former’s image.
According to reports, Moquim has sent the legal notice through senior Supreme Court advocate Shashwat Singh. Moquim demanded that Patra should take his statement back by holding a press conference and tender unconditional apology with folded hands within seven days and desist from maligning him in any manner.
Patra had told a section of the media on December 1 that all the nine Congress MLAs of Odisha had appropriated money from the ruling BJD to maintain silence in the sensational kidnap and murder of the minor girl of Jadupur in Nayagarh district. The Cuttack-Barabati MLA said that he will be constrained to initiate criminal proceedings for defamation under the provisions of IPC, 1860 if he failed to comply with this within 15 days.
On Sunday, leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) Narasingha Mishra said the party was planning legal action against BJP national spokesperson for the defamatory statement given by him against party MLAs on the issue. Earlier, senior leader and Congress MLA from Jatni Suresh Routray had also warned of action against Patra if he did not apologise in public on this matter.
