Bhubaneswar: Tension ran high at Koraput town after Congress MLA Taraprasad Bahinipati was allegedly attacked during a torchlight rally.
The rally, organized by the Koraput District Congress, began near Gundicha Temple and ended at the bus stand, where the incident occurred.
According to reports, Krushna Chandra Kuldeep, a coolie at the bus stand, suddenly rushed to Bahinipati, slapped and abused Bahinipati when the latter accompanied by Congress Legislature Party leader Ramachandra Kadam and other party workers was taking out rally.
However, locals present there intervened, overpowered Kuldeep, and handed him over to the police.
Both the parties, meanwhile, have filed written complaints. Bahinipati’s PSO accused Kuldeep of assaulting the MLA, while Kuldeep alleged that Bahinipati and his brother were plotting to kill him.
Kuldeep is currently undergoing treatment at Koraput District Headquarters Hospital and is expected to be produced before the court soon. Police are investigating the matter.
