Bhubaneswar: Congress MP from Koraput Dr. Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka has submitted a notice to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, urging him to move an adjournment motion to discuss the recent tragic self-immolation of an FM College girl in Balasore.
The MP demanded a thorough discussion on the matter, citing the need for accountability and concrete steps to prevent such incidents in the future.
Dr. Ulaka alleged that the girl had faced persistent harassment and intimidation from faculty members and peers, and despite her repeated complaints, no meaningful action was taken. He emphasized the gravity of the situation, highlighting the failure of governance and the duty of care owed to students by educational institutions and the state.
The Lok Sabha has acknowledged Dr. Ulaka’s submission, and the Speaker’s view on the matter is awaited. The MP has proposed several measures to prevent such incidents, including a time-bound supervised investigation, suspension of negligent officials, mandatory campus safety audits, and a rapid harassment response protocol.
