Bhubaneswar: After opposition BJP and ruling BJD, the third major party Congress on Monday finalised its candidates for the upcoming by-elections in Balasore and Tirtol constituencies of the Odisha Legislative Assembly.
An AICC press release issued by Mukul Wasnik, General Secretary, Incharge-CEC stated that Congress President Sonia Gandhi has approved the names of Mamata Kundu and Himanshu Bhusan Mallick as party candidates for by-elections of Balasore and Tirtol constituencies respectively.
It is worthwhile to mention that the BJP has named Manas Dutt as the candidate for Balasore and Rajkishore Behera as the candidate for Tirtol assembly seats. Similarly, BJD has named Swarup Kumar Das for Balasore and Bijay Shankar Das for Tirtol assembly seats.
As per a previous notification by the Election Commission of India, October 16 will be the last date of nominations, scrutiny of nominations is scheduled on October 17 and October 19 will be the last date for withdrawal of candidature. The poll will be conducted on November 3 and counting of the votes will take place on November 10. The poll process shall be completed by November 12.
